NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC told “loudmouths” who made remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi to "shut up," taking a dig at BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah. She called it “deplorable” for any leader, to speak against the army officer.Shaina praised Colonel Qureshi’s service as a platoon commander and her work with the UN peacekeeping mission in Congo. She said defaming the officer based on gender, caste, or community was unacceptable to Indians.An FIR was filed against Vijay Shah over his remarks. Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati demanded strict action, condemning the “uncivilised and indecent” comments targeting Colonel Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The Supreme Court criticised Shah, saying ministers must speak responsibly, especially during sensitive times. Chief Justice BR Gavai said someone holding a constitutional office should be careful about their statements. The Madhya Pradesh High Court warned of possible contempt proceedings against police if the FIR was not registered promptly. Shah later said his comments were taken out of context and meant to praise Colonel Qureshi’s bravery. The controversy began after a video of Shah’s speech went viral on social media.
