Udupi: Four people lost their lives in separate road accidents reported across Udupi district on Sunday.A scooter rider, Ravindra, died after being hit by a tempo traveller on Udupi–Kundapur stretch of National Highway 66 near a petrol pump at Gundmi village. The tempo vehicle was allegedly being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner when it hit Ravindra's scooter, according to police.He sustained severe injuries to both legs and his chest. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. A case was registered at Kota police station.Man dies after his tempo hits bikeA two-wheeler rider died after being hit by a tempo vehicle near Manjalthar in Mala village, Karkala taluk. The accident occurred around 5.10pm on Sunday when 40-year-old Raghavendra's motorcycle was hit by a tempo allegedly being driven recklessly and moving towards Bajagoli. Raghavendra sustained severe head injury and injuries to his hands and legs. Despite being taken to hospital, he failed to respond to treatment. A case was filed at Karkala rural police station.Pedestrian killed while crossing roadA pedestrian, Ashok, was killed while crossing Brahmavar–Barkur road near a bar in Handadi village, Brahmavar taluk, on Sunday. A lorry heading towards Barkur, driven by Prakash, hit him at high speed, police said. Ashok suffered a severe head injury and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Brahmavar. Brahmavar police registered a case.Woman killed after hit by carA woman died after being hit by a car near a church in Shirva village, Kaup taluk, on Sunday. The deceased is Leena Mathias. The car, allegedly driven rashly by Preetham, hit Leena while she was standing by the roadside. She sustained serious injuries to her head, hip, and arm and was shifted from Shirva PHC to a private hospital in Udupi, where she succumbed to injuries. A case was registered at Shirva police station.
