The Chicago Sky continue to make moves as they prepare for the 2025 WNBA season. On Friday, the team announced the signing of Jessika Carter, a forward who previously played for the Las Vegas Aces, to a training camp contract.
This signing comes after a busy offseason for the Sky, who have been making significant changes to their roster following a disappointing 2024 season in which they failed to make the WNBA playoffs. Chicago has already added several new players, including Chennedy Carter and Michaela Onyen were key veteran additions along with promising young talents like Ajša Sivka and Hailey Van Lith from this year’s draft.
Carter’s WNBA journey has been a bit bumpy. The 6-foot-5 forward was drafted in the second round of the 2023 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty. However, her stint with the Liberty didn’t last long. After just over a month, Carter was waived by the team. She quickly found a spot with the Las Vegas Aces in June 2023, but her time with the Aces was similarly brief, playing just two games without recording any statistics.

After her brief WNBA experience, Carter spent the offseason playing for AZS Poznań in Poland, where she had the chance to showcase her skills and gain more experience. During her time with the Liberty, Carter did manage to put up four points, two rebounds, and two assists in an exhibition game against the Chicago Sky, showing flashes of potential.
Now, Carter has another shot at proving herself in the WNBA with the Sky. She will compete for a roster spot during training camp. However, she will face stiff competition from established players like Kamilla Cardoso and the newly added Angel Reese, both of whom are key figures in Chicago’s frontcourt.
With the season opener against the Indiana Fever and star player Caitlin Clark fast approaching, Carter will need to impress the coaching staff in camp if she wants to make the final roster.
The Sky’s front office, led by general manager Jeff Pagliocca, has been busy retooling the team for the 2025 season. With Tyler Marsh now at the helm as head coach, the Sky will be looking to bounce back after a tough year and make a push for the playoffs. The addition of Carter is just one of many moves designed to strengthen the team and build depth as they enter the new season.
