The Golden State Warriors’ playoff hopes took a sudden hit Tuesday night when Stephen Curry was forced to leave Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a left hamstring strain. Curry’s injury could have a major impact on the game, especially for the Warriors, as he has been the standout star for the team.
Stephen Curry’s hamstring strain sparks concern in the Golden State Warriors' roster
Just over eight minutes into the second quarter, Curry motioned to the bench, visibly uncomfortable as he grabbed the back of his left leg.
Moments later, after Draymond Green buried a three-pointer to give the Warriors a 30–20 lead, Curry walked straight to the locker room for further evaluation. Golden State later confirmed what fans feared. Curry would not return to the game due to a left hamstring issue.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, “Warriors' Stephen Curry has a left hamstring strain and is out for remainder of Game 1 against Minnesota.”
Prior to the injury, Curry looked sharp, putting up 13 points in just 13 minutes of action. He connected on 5-of-9 shots from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and was clearly in rhythm. The timing of the injury couldn’t have been worse, especially considering Curry has already been battling a lingering right thumb injury for the past few months.
Without their two-time MVP on the floor, head coach Steve Kerr turned to Moses Moody and rookie Brandin Podziemski to fill the sudden void. While both players have contributed in flashes throughout the season, neither can replicate Curry’s gravity, leadership, or shot-making in high-stakes moments.
Fans react to Stephen Curry’s unfortunate news
As Curry’s news spread online, fans rushed into the social media to share their thoughts.
“Hamstring strains are very very serious, Hali had one and he was out for like 2 weeks,” one fan wrote with concern.
Another user who is seemingly a doctor, shared, “Even if this is a mild hamstring strain, they often take 5-7 days to calm down. It’s possible he returns sooner but he will be severely restricted. If it’s moderate he’s going to be out for a several weeks.”
The user added, “Although there’s not much traditional ‘running’ in basketball, more so jogging, the hamstring is used in so many different motions including jumping (for shooting) and push passes. The Warriors medical staff will work around the clock likely using a combination of red light, PEMF, physical therapy, dry needling, stem cells/PRP, IVs like high-dose vitamin C and ozone as well as hyperbaric chamber to optimize blood flow to the injured tissue and improve healing.”
“Damn. Prayers for Steph and the Warriors,” one fan showered thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Curry’s absence would be concerning for the Warriors. Of course, Jimmy Butler is still on the roster with his specialized tag “Playoff Jimmy,” fans are concerned for the future Hall of Famer’s upcoming games in the playoffs.
