The Baltimore Orioles are having a tough season. Their pitchers are giving up too many runs, and their hitters are also not giving enough. The team is at or near the bottom of all the important statistics. And through all these problems, one player is far and away playing the best. His name is Tomoyuki Sugano. He is a young Japanese pitcher, and he has played very well in his debut games. He is an exception to an awful season.

Tomoyuki Sugano pitches strong while others are struggling

The Orioles have the worst pitching staff in baseball. They allow lots of runs. They don't strike out opposing batters a lot. They also allow the other team too many hits. Up to game number 42, their ERA is extremely high. That's indicating that the pitchers are not stopping the opposing team.
A majority of the starting pitchers are veterans. They are struggling to keep up. The team has also made numerous changes in an effort to correct issues, but this is not going well so far.But there is one pitcher who is performing well. His name is Tomoyuki Sugano. The Orioles signed him at the beginning of the season. In his first 8 games, he has won 4 and lost 2. His ERA is only 2.72, which is excellent. He has walked only 8 batters and struck out 26. He is contributing well to the team, even when they are losing.

Tomoyuki Sugano is now one of a special Orioles Club

Sugano is now one of a select and special club of Orioles pitchers. He is only the fifth Orioles pitcher in history to have an ERA below 2.72 in his first 8 games with more than 40 innings pitched. The rest of this group are among the greatest in team history. One of them is Steve Barber. He was an All-Star twice. He even pitched a no-hitter and is in the Orioles' Hall of Fame.Another is Chuck Estrada, who was also an All-Star and the league leader in wins. Zack Britton makes the list too. He had a great career with two All-Star selections. Bob Milacki is the final one. He was not an All-Star but did extremely well and assisted in throwing a no-hitter.Also Read: Minnesota Twins Dominate Orioles To Claim 11th Consecutive Win, Closing In On Franchise History
