AR Rahman says after his Oscar win, he did not use all the opportunities that came his way: 'I have done enough'

A.R. Rahman, the pride of India, reflected on his Oscar win for 'Jai Ho' from 'Slumdog Millionaire,' admitting he didn't fully capitalize on the opportunities that followed. In a recent interview, Rahman revealed he chose to relax in Los Angeles, focusing on Hollywood projects instead of aggressively pursuing further global collaborations.

AR Rahman made India proud as he won an Oscar for 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire in the 'Best Original Song' category in the year 2009. He also won an Oscar for the 'Best Original Score'. But did you know that instead of making the most of all the fame and opportunities coming his way after the Oscar win, Rahman rather was all laid back. He has admitted to it in a recent interview and said that he thought he had done enough work and just wanted to chill instead.
He said in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, "If we can crossover to an audience that is not just Indian, and I think it’s important at this stage where people are willing to invest their time to listen to Indian music, Indian artistes and it happened during ‘Jai Ho’ and Oscar but I was more in the chill out mode then."
Rahman added, “I didn’t use all the opportunities. I was like, I have done enough, let me also chill out. So, I was mostly in Los Angeles, I was doing Hollywood movies and I didn’t use some of the opportunities which could have pushed the boundaries more.”
The ace composer also spoke about how he composed for 'Slumdog Millionaire' and his reaction to the reception that it got. He was surprised as he said, "I completed the music for Slumdog Millionaire in three weeks. There were only seventeen keys. For our films, there will be around 130 keys. The agent heard and said it was really good and that I should submit it to Oscar. After I submitted… the way people received me after Roja… similarly, everyone started to smile at me. Many told me, ‘I love your music.’ And I was like, ‘What did I do much that they are liking it?.”
