Venkatesh Daggubati's 'Sankranthiki Vasthunam' smashes OTT records on debut

Venkatesh Daggubati starrer 'Sankranthiki Vasthunam', directed by Anil Ravipudi, became one of the most successful Telugu films of 2025. Released on January 14, during the Sankranti festival season, the film quickly became a massive box office hit, grossing over Rs 250 crore worldwide.
After its phenomenal theatrical run, 'Sankranthiki Vasthunam' made its highly anticipated OTT debut on March 1 on OTT platform Zee5. Within hours of its release on the streaming platform, the film shattered viewership records. According to a Republic World report, it surpassed the previous record set by blockbusters like 'RRR' and 'HanuMan', becoming the most-viewed film on Zee5 within the first 12 hours. The movie achieved over 100 million streaming minutes in this short span, with more than 1.3 million viewers tuning in.
The makers shared a social media post, they wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "#SankranthikiVasthunam continues to make HISTORY with its OTT release #SankranthikiVasthunamOnZee5 emerges as the BIGGEST OPENING FILM EVER on @ZEE5Telugu, shattering all previous records in just 6 hours"

The film follows the story of Damodara Raju played by Venkatesh, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, who is approached by his ex-girlfriend and Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi portrayed by Meenakshi Chaudhary to assist in a high-profile kidnapping case. The victim, Satya Akella, a CEO of a multinational conglomerate, has been abducted under mysterious circumstances. Adding a comedic twist to the intense investigation is Damodara Raju's wife Bhagyalakshmi played by Aishwarya Rajesh), who insists on joining the mission to keep an eye on her husband and his ex-girlfriend. This makes the film filled with some hilarious and action-packed sequences.

The film is digitally streaming in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
P Sai Kumar, Srinivasa Reddy, Naresh, VTV Ganesh, and Sarvadaman D. Banerjee were also seen in key roles. Anil Ravipudi not only directed but also penned the screenplay for this family entertainer.
