GURGAON: Four men allegedly shot dead the owner of a sweets shop in Farrukhnagar on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after he allegedly refused to deliver a samosa to an office nearby.
Police said Rajesh Saini, a 27-year-old who managed the sweets shop near Jhajjar Chowk in Farrukhnagar, was hit by two bullets and died on the spot.
After the shooting, it emerged that Saini and his family were unnerved after the argument with the accused on Monday and had told local police about the threats given to them.
Cops said they have registered an FIR for murder against four accused -- Pankaj, a resident of Ismailpur in Faridabad, and three of his associates.
According to the complaint, Pankaj went to Saini's shop on Monday evening and asked him to deliver a samosa to the office of a friend nearby. When Saini told him he does not run a delivery service, an argument ensued, and Pankaj walked out after threatening the shop owner of dire consequences.
Pankaj came back to the shop with three associates on Tuesday afternoon and opened fire at Saini.
"The accused fired three to four bullets, and the victim was hit twice. We have booked all four men named by Saini's brother in his complaint, including Pankaj. Multiple police teams are raiding possible hideouts of the suspects, who will be nabbed soon.
Since the investigation is on, we are yet to ascertain the weapon used in crime," a senior police officer said.
The shooting triggered protests as other traders closed their shops in the area and accused police of inaction on Tuesday. Protesters also blocked the Farrukhnagar-Jhajjar Road, forcing police to divert traffic towards the bypass for three hours.
The demonstration was called off after senior officers – Pataudi ACP Sukhbir Singh and Sadar ACP Yashwant Singh – reached the site and assured Saini's family that action will be taken against the accused. Cops also told them that 10 teams of the Crime Branch are working to trace the suspects. Asked if any action was taken against cops who did not pay heed to Saini's warning , Gurgaon police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said no one has been suspended so far.
